EmpathyRarely can a response make something better.  A friend just shared the video and it made me so happy.  I hope it explains to well-meaning people that trying to paint a silver lining to a completely crappy situation doesn’t make it better.  In fact, it often makes things worse. Don’t start off a sentence with, “At least.” Don’t use cliche’s like, “Hang in there,” “Things will get better,” “Just think positive thoughts.”

This morning another friend shared his heart, his pain, of not being able to find work.  It is REAL pain, REAL fear.  Words can’t sooth those. I know that from personal experience, being on both sides of that dark fence.

“What is the best way to ease someone’s pain and suffering? In this beautifully animated RSA Short, Dr Brené Brown reminds us that we can only create a genuine empathic connection if we are brave enough to really get in touch with our own fragilities.”

Spend 3 minutes of your life and look at this video.  – THANKS!
