Ambrosia Software Releases Soundboard 1.0.1

October 2, 2009

Soundboard answers the needs of podcasters and broadcasters everywhere looking for an elegant way to instantly incorporate sound clips into their live performances, or to quickly and efficiently use onboard audio to create custom musical mashups.

Soundboard’s elegant interface is designed to be used “live,” scaling up visually so you can see your triggers from a distance. When you import audio into Soundboard, it is converted to Apple Lossless format so playback will be instant. This avoids any delay caused by decoding either MP3 or AAC files on the fly.

You’ll be able to find your desired sounds at a glance, and triggering them will quickly become automatic. Triggers can be renamed at will, color-coded, and shuffled around the board to suit your needs. Assign up to 32 sounds per tab, and create as many tabs as you need, and you can share ‘boards with other Soundboard users.

Soundboard’s 32 triggers can also be used to quickly and efficiently build custom mashups from your onboard audio. Combine this easy-to-adapt workspace with the recording power of WireTap Studio – or WireTap Anywhere and your favorite high-end editor – and your creative and recording potential is boundless.

Soundboard applies the familiar audio editing environment and filtering tools of WireTap Studio to any sounds you import. Create intros and fades, crop at will, and apply filters to your audio without fear of losing your original file. Soundboard’s streamlined interface and speed will get you the sound you need, when you need it.

You can control Soundboard via any MIDI device, and MIDI effects such as panning and gain are automatically applied to Soundboard’s output. Have your sound play in its entirety with a tap, or have it run only while holding down your chosen MIDI trigger. With Soundboard, it’s your audio, your way.

Soundboard is available immediately for $29.

eBook design and motion graphics :: Seth Godin

July 31, 2009

If it’s worth doing, it’s probably worth paying to do it very well. If you’re going to do a presentation or write an eBook, spend the money to do it right.

Paul Durban created this example of motion graphics. It’s a lot easier to do now than it used to be, so you get a lot for the energy and money you invest. If you can’t be there in person (with an eBook, for example), the energy you get from great design really matters.

If someone sends me a PDF that’s just a word file, I rarely make it past the first page any longer. Time to raise your bar.

June 23, 2009

For designers, freelancers or studio owners, we have ALL found ourselves in this situation.  Here’s a very funny video how ‘our clients’ would come across in every day life.  Trouble is, how do we get out clients to watch it before they open up their mouths?

A throw out to Phil Cooke who turned me on to this video.

Mic Shoot-Out : Blue Bottle versus AKG C-12

May 17, 2009

Image Founded in 1995 by Skipper Wise and Martins Saulespurens, Blue has grown from a desire to create a few hand-built mics for fellow musicians into a unique, multi-faceted audio company with a prestigious line of award-winning microphones and accessories. Headquartered in Westlake Village, California and with engineering and manufacturing facilities in Latvia, Blue Microphones continues to grow and lead the way with cutting-edge design and technological innovation in the field of recording. Current projects include the building of a state-of-the-art recording and training facility and capsule testing area located at company headquarters in Southern California.

Having been very impressed by Blue, we have forged a relationship with them
and asked if they would willing put up their microphones for review and shoot-outs.
Confident in their quality and the performance of their mics, they basically
said, “bring it on”.

The first video is a mic shoot-out between Blue’s BOTTLE and Don
Felder’s
(the Eagles from 1974–1980 and from 1994–2001) C-12 microphone. This 7-minute
video will provide an opportunity for you to listen to these two mics go at
each other on both an acoustic and electric guitar.

Digital Signage Helps Get Right Message to Right People – NAB

April 22, 2009

The broadcast industry is going through a seachange, and there has never been a more important time to not only seek out new technology solutions in the digital TV transition, but to seek out new vertical markets for technologies. There is much promise for growth in digital signage, a market that was born in broadcast.

Digital signage (“narrowcast” content centrally managed, but pushed out to public spaces in retail, transportation, education, or corporate settings) is accelerating rapidly, even in the midst of a recession in the larger economy, because of the confluence of two major trends.

Whether or which – Marketing

April 22, 2009

Seth Godin breaks it down. Good article on how you should approach customers.

Most marketers are busy trying to persuade people to buy their product. Confusion sets in, though, when you compare a pitch designed to get someone to buy any product in the category (you need an mp3 player because you can listen to music) vs. buying your product instead of the competition (ours is cheaper and bigger and better).

Are you trying to make the market bigger, or just grow your share?

Accent Codes for the Macintosh

April 18, 2009

If you are a Mac based designer here’s a great little short-cut for you.  In fact, it shouldn’t be a short-cut, it should be a part of your everyday work-flow.

When working with type don’t attempt to manually create an Umlaut, Acute or Degree symbol.  And for heaven’s sake, don’t go looking at some strange font to help you solve the problem.  There are short-cut commands to help you with that.

Tools for Final Cut Pro editors and film makers

April 17, 2009

This morning I came across and great site that offered some fantastic FREE tools for people who use Final Cut Pro (Studio suite) and or are film makers.  The site is Digital Rebellion (http://digitalrebellion.com).

One of my favorite apps is the Preference Manager.  If FCP, or any of the suite apps, are acting up, trashing your preferences is a great place to start.  Most of the time, this will solve any issues.  There is also the FCP Removal app.  Why would you want this?  Well, if you have ever tried to unistall FCP you will LOVE this app.  FCP puts files everywhere and making sure you got everyone of them is a pain in the #$%&. So, if you are doing a major upgrade or just wanting a fresh install. This app is invaluable.

On a side note, if you want an app the REMOVES applications, try App Zapper. It’s the uninstall tool that Apple forgot.

Back to Digital Rebellion – they also have a slew of iphone apps that are really useful on a shoot:
