Current neuroscience research confirms what creatives intuitively know about being innovative: that it usually happens in the shower. After focusing intently on a project or problem, the brain needs to fully disengage and relax in order for a “Eureka!” moment to arise. It’s often the mundane activities like taking a shower, driving, or taking a walk that lure great ideas to the surface. Composer Steve Reich, for instance, would ride the subway around New York when he was stuck. [read]

If you ask some, they’ll tell you Web 2.0 as we know it is probably on its way out the door. For many, Web 2.0 is characterized mainly by the ability of users to share information quickly with others, which has been developed into the phenomenon that we call social media. From Twitter to Facebook to YouTube and to all sorts of other kinds of communities, Web 2.0 is all about sharing and seeing. Now if you recall or were around during what is now known as Web 1.0, information was put up on a website and that was it–the best way of sharing it was privately through e-mails and such. There was little to no communication and if you wanted information, you had to go to the source for it. Can you imagine such a harsh internet? Now with Web 2.0 on it’s way out, the obvious question is, what in the world is Web 3.0 going to be? [read]

Seems that Skype has been installing a program called “Easy Bits Go.” The program is made by a company that produces game apps. And it’s a paid ad trial ware. And they’ve been installing it without your permission. How to get rid of it? You have to jump through a bunch of hoops including a registry hack. Leo says that this is the same nonsense that killed Real Player. Leo understands that Skype provides a bunch of free services and it’s a business that has to make a living. But installing something without permission, and with no option to opt out, is just plain unacceptable.[via The Tech Guy]

Motivation can be tough. Even when you want to do something – like exercising regularly, eating right or keeping a journal – it’s easy to find your enthusiasm slackening off.
But motivation gets reallytough when the task at hand is downright boring.
- Repetitive, boring data entry or copy-and-pasting tasks on the computer
- Housework – laundry, cleaning, cooking, tidying, washing dishes…
- Sorting and filing papers
- Delivering leaflets door-to-door
They’re tasks that are repetitive, unchallenging and uncreative. There might be relatively little reward or recognition for completing them. No wonder you put them off, or struggle to focus when you’re tackling them. [read]
