Country WOW

I love music, all styles of music but I must admit that Country music rates near the bottom of what my ears can tolerate.  For those that know me that is no surprise.  Something changed last night though.

I decided to watch the CMA Awards, only to see my friend and inspiration, Shawn Tubbs, play guitar.  What I got was a completely different experience than I had anticipated.  I actually enjoyed the show – for a number of reasons.

First of all – I genuinely enjoyed the people on the show.  They showed ‘class’, they were funny, they seem to be enjoying themselves, not taking themselves more seriously than they should and they had short and non-political/social acceptance speeches AND there was no Kanye.

Secondly – the music was, for the most part, very well performed, fun, listenable and ‘real’.  I found myself enjoying the tunes and having brief thoughts of going on iTunes . . . but, I may need just a little more time. :o )

I’ve grown SO VERY WARY of awards shows.  Most are filled with self-absorbed, humorless, pundits of ‘we are better than the rest of you’ neo-artists that produce a really boring, almost distaining show.  Tired of the political/social speeches and quips – they are entertainers so ENTERTAIN.  That’s what I got out of the CMAs – ENTERTAINMENT.

The Oscars, Grammys and God forbid, anything MTVish – have not risen but sunken into something that they (we) should not be proud of.  My hope is that the Oscars and Grammys would make a turn-around and that the MTV Awards would just plain go away.

Nice job CMAs.  And, if any of you repeat this I will deny it.  Now excuse me while I go do some research into Little Big Town.
